Aeronautica Militare Italiana, December 22, 2017 - By Capt Gianni Lopresti - On Friday December 22nd, the new heliport for the emergency service of the Integrated Health University of Udine (Servizio di soccorso dell’Azienda Sanitaria Universitaria Integrata di Udine, ASUI UD) was officially inaugurated in Campoformido within the logistic base of the 2nd Wing (2 Stormo) of the Italian Air Force (AMI).
The new facility, result of an agreement between the Health Authority and the Air Force, was unveiled to the public in the presence of the major regional institutional authorities.
This is an installation that will allow 24-hour operations which was not the case from the previously operated site at the Udine hospital.
The success of this work was only possible by the offer made by the Italian Air Force to loan a portion of the Campoformido base which is close to the hospital of the Friulian capital.
The agreement is part of a now traditional collaboration between the 2nd Wing and local institutions, including the ASUI UD, which since 2016 allows night operations of the Rivolto airport, the Wing's headquarters, for sanitary flights operated on behalf the Regional Transplant Center of Friuli Venezia Giulia. In 2016 this involved 16 night-time landings with an equal number of saved lives and additional 15 in 2017.
These are collaborations that reinforce the historic bond of reciprocal availability between the 2nd Wing and the Friulian territory.
